A high of about [1028 hPa] near New Zealand extends a weakening ridge along
the east coast of Queensland. A trough over the eastern interior of the stat is
approaching the coast and expected to move northeast along the coast during the
day. A secondary trough will move through Queensland on Thursday. Cloud bands
will continue to move across parts of the state over the next few days with a
little patchy rain.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
The rain band will move through eastern districts, contracting to the central
coast later today. Some moderate falls with possible thunder expected north of
the Darling Downs and most of the Burnett later this morning. Isolated showers
or drizzle to follow the rain band over the southern interior. Isolated showers
about the east coast generally, developing over interior Cape York Peninsula in
the afternoon. Becoming dry and sunny in the west of the state. Light to
moderate SE to NE winds over the tropics. Fresh to strong SE winds in the
southern Gulf this morning. Generally cool moderate SE to SW winds over the
interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
The next high over southern Western Australia will extend a ridge across to
Queensland and in combination with the low near Victoria with maintain a dry,
cool S'ly airstream into most of the state. High cloud will continue stream
across most of Queensland with late patchy rain in the far west. Isolated
showers to persist over the northeast tropics as the previous surface trough
stalls.
Forecast for Thursday
The high will remain slow moving to the south of South Australia, extending a
ridge through western Queensland. Dry and cool over southern Queensland, chilly
in the Granite Belt in the morning with early frost. Remaining cloudy through
the southern tropics with patchy rain, increasing to the east. Isolated showers
persisting about the northeast tropical coast.
Forecast for Friday
The high moves slowly east while the deep depression near Victoria moves
offshore. This will inject drier, cooler air into southern Queensland. Early
frost in the Granite Belt and near Roma. Cloudy through the southern tropics
with a little late patchy rain in the northwest of the state. Isolated showers
continuing in the northeast tropics.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
Deep, cool, dry S'ly winds over Queensland on Saturday and Sunday with
extensive early frost over the southern and southeast interior. Higher cloud
thinning on Saturday over the southern tropics with a little rain in the far
west but fine through the interior on Sunday. By Monday the next high would have
