Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 12/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for southeast Gulf of
Carpentaria waters for Tuesday morning.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1031 hPa] near New Zealand extends a weakening ridge along the east
coast of Queensland. The high will move very slowly to the east while weakening.
An upper trough will move through southern inland Queensland today and approach
the southeast coast.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Mostly cloudy with isolated showers in the east, tending scattered about
parts of the coast. Cloudy and cool with patchy rain, showers and isolated
thunderstorms over the west and southern interior, spreading into central and
southeast districts during the afternoon and evening. Isolated showers over the
northern tropics. Moderate to fresh and gusty SE winds along the northern
tropics and far northern Cape York Peninsula. Moderate to fresh and gusty SE to
SW winds over the west and southern interior. Mostly light to moderate SE to NE
winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Tuesday
A slow moving new high in the Great Australian Bight will extend a ridge and
drier, cool and gusty S to SW winds across the far west of the state. The upper
trough is expected to move east and offshore during the day, contracting the
cloud and areas of rain over central and southern districts to the east during
the day. However, the surface trough is likely to persist over the interior,
generating some showers and isolated thunderstorms over southern and southeast
districts. Isolated showers over the northern and eastern tropics.
Forecast for Wednesday
The new high will remain slow moving in the Great Australian Bight, and
continue to extend a ridge and drier, cool and S to SW winds across western and
southern parts of the state. Another upper trough will approach the west of the
state, increasing cloud over the interior but no rain. Isolated showers over
eastern Queensland, mostly near the coast northeast of a weak surface trough.
Possible frost about the southeast and southern interior.
Forecast for Thursday
The new high will remain slow moving in the Great Australian Bight, extending
a ridge and drier, cool and gusty S to SW winds across the far south and west of
the state. The upper trough will push through southern Queensland, increasing
cloud over southern and central areas, with patchy rain and showers expected
through central areas of Queensland. Isolated showers over the tropical east.
Possible frost about the southeast and southern interior.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The high over the Great Australian Bight will remain slow moving and continue
to push dry, cool air across the west and most of the southern half of the
state, resulting in areas of morning frost about the southeast and southern
interior. The upper trough will move off the central coast early Friday clearing
the cloud and light rain in the central eastern districts. Another upper trough
will push into southern Queensland on Saturday, with further areas of cloud and
possible light rain. Isolated showers will continue about the eastern tropical
coast in the onshore flow.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
