Weather Situation
A high [1034 hPa] near New Zealand extends a firm ridge along the east coast
of Queensland. The high will move very slowly to the east while weakening during
Monday. An upper trough will approach the southwest of the state late today and
move through southern inland Queensland on Monday.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Mostly cloudy with isolated showers about the coast. Showers tending
scattered about the tropics. Isolated showers over the remainder of northern and
eastern Queensland. Cloudy in the far southwest with patchy rain and isolated
thunderstorms developing. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Fresh and gusty SE
winds along the east coast and far northern Cape York Peninsula. Light to
moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Monday
Mostly cloudy with isolated showers in the east, tending scattered along
parts of the coast. Cloud increasing from the southwest with patchy mostly light
rain and isolated thunderstorms. Isolated showers through the southern and
central districts during the afternoon and evening. Fine and partly cloudy
elsewhere. Moderate to fresh and gusty SE winds along the east coast and far
northern Cape York Peninsula. A moderate to fresh S to SW change spreading from
the far southwest. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Tuesday
A new high in the Great Australian Bight will extend a ridge and drier, cool
and gusty S to SW winds across the far west of the state. The upper trough is
expected to move east and offshore during the day, contracting the cloud and
patchy rain eastwards. However, the surface trough is likely to persist over the
interior, generating some showers and isolated thunderstorms over southern and
southeast districts. Isolated showers over the northern and eastern tropics.
Forecast for Wednesday
A new high will remain slow moving in the Great Australian Bight, extending a
ridge and drier, cool and gusty S to SW winds across the far west of the state.
Another upper trough will approach the southwest of the state, increasing cloud
over the interior but no rain. Isolated showers over eastern Queensland, mostly
near the coast. Possible frost about the southeast and southern interior.
Forecast for Thursday
The new high will remain slow moving in the Great Australian Bight, extending
a ridge and drier, cool and gusty S to SW winds across the far south and west of
the state. The upper trough will push through southern Queensland, increasing
cloud over southern and central areas, with patchy rain and showers expected
through central areas of Queensland. Isolated showers over the tropical east.
Possible frost about the southeast and southern interior.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The high over the Great Australian Bight will remain slow moving and continue
to push dry, cool air across the west and most of the southern half of the
state, resulting in areas of morning frost about the southeast and southern
interior. The upper trough will move off the central coast early Friday clearing
the cloud and light rain in the central eastern districts. Another upper trough
will push into southern Queensland on Saturday, with further areas of cloud and
possible light rain expected. Isolated showers will continue about the eastern
tropical coast in the onshore flow.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
