MELBOURNE - May 10/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters from Torres Strait to Burnett Heads. A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for eastern Gulf of Carpentaria waters north of Crab Island. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over southeast Australia is extending a ridge along the east coast of Queensland. An upper level trough is expected to move off the southeast Queensland coast during Saturday. A surface trough will enter the far southwest of the state on Sunday and eventually progress east, reaching southeast Queensland on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of Friday Mainly scattered showers about the east coast, more isolated about the coast north of about Cooktown and over the eastern interior. Fine and mostly clear over the interior. Fresh to strong SE winds over the east coast, and light to moderate SE to NE winds over the interior. Forecast for Saturday The high should slowly move southeast through the Tasman Sea whilst maintaining the ridge of high pressure about the east coast of Queensland, and the upper level trough should move off the southeast coast. Fresh to strong SE winds and mainly scattered showers should continue about most of the east coast, and more isolated showers are expected over the far eastern interior. Fine and mostly sunny through the west and south of the state. The chance of some early isolated showers about the southwest Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fresh to strong SE winds over the east coast, and light to moderate SE to NE winds over the interior. Forecast for Sunday The high should move a little towards New Zealand and the ridge should also weaken along the east coast of Queensland. Mainly isolated showers about the east coast, and more widespread about the north tropical coast. The chance of some early isolated showers about the southwest Gulf of Carpentaria coast. A new SW'ly wind change or trough will enter the Channel Country with patchy light rain developing. Forecast for Monday The high should weaken near New Zealand along with the ridge of high pressure along Queensland's east coast. Mainly isolated showers about Queensland's far east, and also developing over the northern and central interior ahead of a surface trough. Cooler about the far southwest of the state and areas of patchy light rain. Forecast for Tuesday A new high in the Great Australian Bight will push dry and cool westerly winds further across Queensland's western districts and through the central interior. Mainly isolated showers over the eastern districts and areas of patchy, mainly light rain over the southern interior and the state's southeast. Fine, dry and mostly sunny over the rest of the state. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday The high over the Great Australian Bight should push dry, cool air across most of the southern half of the state from Wednesday, resulting in areas of morning frost about the southeast and southern interior. Fine and mostly sunny over the interior, and just isolated showers about parts of the east coast. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Saturday.
