strengthening ridge along the east Queensland coast. A trough near Fraser Island
is expected to move north along the central Queensland coast during Monday. An
upper level trough over central Australia is expected to move east across
Queensland during Monday, with an inland surface trough expected to lie over the
central and southern interior.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Mostly cloudy with isolated showers over Cape York Peninsula and the North
Tropical Coast and adjacent inland. Isolated showers about the coast and
adjacent inland south of Yeppoon, tending scattered south of about Bundaberg.

sunny elsewhere, though some high cloud over the southwest. Moderate to fresh S
to SE winds along the east coast and over the far north. Light to moderate SE to
NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Monday
Mostly cloudy with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms about the
Capricornia, Central Coast and Whitsundays, Central Highlands and Coalfields
districts. Isolated showers about the remainder of the eastern tropics. Isolated
showers about the southeast, tending scattered about the coast north of
Brisbane. Isolated showers and isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms over
the southeast interior. Isolated showers over the Gulf Country west of about
Burketown. Fine elsewhere, though high cloud over the southwest and southern
interior. A very warm day in the west. Moderate to fresh S to SE winds along the
east coast and over the far north, tending fresh to strong about the Capricornia
and central Queensland coast during the afternoon and evening. Moderate to fresh
SE to NE winds elsewhere. A Very High fire danger in the Northwest, Channel
Country, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high is expected to strengthen but move only slowly eastwards into the
southern Tasman Sea. The ridge along the east coast is also expected to
strengthen, with fresh to strong SE winds expected along most of the tropical
coast. The associated onshore flow will bring isolated showers to eastern
Queensland and the tropical interior, tending scattered about the east coast and
adjacent inland. The inland surface trough is expected to move westwards to lie
from about Normanton to the eastern Channel Country in the afternoon and
evening. A broad upper trough will remain situated over southern and eastern
Queensland, and will enhance instability east of the surface trough over the
central and southern interior with isolated showers and thunderstorms. Isolated
showers are expected once again over the Gulf Country west of about Burketown.
Fine and mostly sunny in the far west of the state, with temperatures to remain
above the May average.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high is expected to maintain intensity while moving slowly across the
southern Tasman Sea. The high will continue to extend a firm ridge along the
east Queensland coast, with strong SE winds along the tropical coast and far
northern Gulf of Carpentaria waters. Mostly cloudy over eastern Queensland with
isolated showers, tending scattered about the coast. More widespread showers are
expected about the North Tropical Coast with moderate falls. Isolated showers
over the central and southern interior, as well as over the Gulf Country west of
about Burketown. Another upper trough is expected to move over northern New
South Wales, and combined with the onshore flow is expected to produce scattered
showers about the Southeast Coast, Wide Bay and Burnett districts. Isolated
thunderstorms are also possible about the Southeast Coast, Wide Bay and Burnett
and southern Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts. Fine and mostly sunny in
the west of the state, with temperatures to remain above the May average.
Forecast for Thursday
The high is expected to remain over the Tasman Sea and maintain the firm
ridge along the east Queensland coast, with strong SE winds along the tropical
coast and far northern Gulf of Carpentaria waters. Mostly cloudy over eastern
Queensland with isolated showers, tending scattered about the coast. The upper
trough is expected to move into southeast Queensland, and combined with the
onshore flow is expected to produce scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms
about the Southeast Coast, Wide Bay and Burnett, Darling Downs and Granite Belt
districts. Isolated showers may also occur over the southern interior due to the
upper trough. Isolated showers are expected once again over the Gulf Country
west of about Burketown. Fine and mostly sunny in the west of the state, with
temperatures to remain above the May average.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The high is expected to remain over the Tasman Sea and maintain a firm ridge
with fresh to strong SE winds and showers over eastern districts and the far
north of the state. These showers are likely to contract to areas closer to the
coast by Saturday as the upper trough moves offshore. Remaining fine and mostly
sunny over the interior, with temperatures to generally remain above average.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
