MELBOURNE - May 1/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front crossed Bass Strait and southern Victoria today. A high pressure system will move over Victoria on Thursday then track northeastwards over the northern Tasman Sea on Friday. Another cold front will cross Tasmania and eastern Bass Strait late on Friday then a weak ridge of high pressure will establish over eastern Victoria on Saturday. The next high pressure system will move over Bass Strait on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers in the south, contracting eastwards in the evening. Isolated hail and thunder possible in the southeast. The chance of brief snowfalls on southern Alpine slopes above 1600 metres. Fresh southwesterly winds near the coast, easing.Thursday 2 MayLocal morning fog and frost inland. Isolated early showers in the far east then a fine and mainly sunny day throughout. A cool to mild day with light winds.Friday 3 MayFine apart from isolated afternoon and evening showers in southern districts, except for East Gippsland. A mild day with cloud increasing and north to northwesterly winds freshening over southern and elevated areas.Saturday 4 MayScattered showers, generally in southern and mountain districts. Cool in the south, mild in the north with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds easing and tending south to southeasterly.Sunday 5 MayIsolated showers in most districts, tending scattered about the ranges.
