MELBOURNE - Apr 22/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak ridge of high pressure lies over eastern Queensland. An upper level
trough lies over southern Queensland, and will push off the coast early Tuesday
morning. Another upper trough will approach the southwest of the state on
Tuesday. A surface trough will move northeast across the interior of the state
today and move off the southeast coast Tuesday morning.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Areas of cloud and isolated thunderstorms over southwest Queensland, though
little rainfall is expected. Mostly fine elsewhere with only isolated light
showers over central districts and the northeast tropical coast. A Very High
fire danger in the Channel Country. Light to moderate SE to NE winds in the
northeast of the state, tending NE to NW over remaining central and eastern
parts. Light to moderate S to SW winds in the southwest and southern
interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
Scattered showers and gusty thunderstorms over central and southeast
Queensland in the afternoon and evening, mostly over areas from the Sunshine
Coast to Rockhampton. Showers and isolated thunderstorms will extend southwest
through Torres Strait in a moist and unstable airmass. The high cloud over
western Queensland and the southern interior is likely to generate some isolated
thunderstorms and patchy light rain, with maximum temperatures generally below
average in this area. Maximum temperatures will remain generally above average
through remaining parts of the state. Moderate to fresh S to SE winds to the
west of trough, tending light to moderate SE to NE east of the trough.
Forecast for Wednesday
The surface trough should remain almost stationary extending from Fraser
Island to Emerald and through to the Gulf Country. Scattered afternoon showers
and isolated gusty thunderstorms are likely east of the surface trough
especially south of about Charters Towers. Scattered showers, patchy rain and
isolated thunderstorms are expected over the far north of Cape York Peninsula
and Torres Strait. A high should move east across South Australia, extending dry
S to SE winds and fine conditions through much of the interior of
Queensland.
Forecast for Thursday
The upper trough will most likely move east into the southeast of the state
as the surface trough lies from the northeast of the state into the southeast
interior. Isolated showers are expected to the east of the surface trough
through most eastern districts, but it should be mostly fine in the tropics with
only isolated showers. Scattered showers, patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms
will occur over the far north of Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait. Fine and
mostly sunny in the west and southern interior will prevail as the high slowly
moves across southeast Australia.
Forecast for Friday
The high over southeast Australia will move east over New South Wales and
extend a ridge along the east Queensland coast with isolated showers likely
along the coast. Isolated afternoon showers are also possible about parts of the
northern interior and eastern Gulf Coast. The upper trough will move off the
southern Queensland coast during the day, possibly enhancing shower activity in
the southeast. It will remain fine and mostly sunny in the west and southern
interior as dry, stable conditions continue.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The high looks likely to move into the Tasman Sea on the weekend maintaining
the east coast ridge and isolated coastal showers. Showers will possibly be more
scattered at times about the central and tropical coasts. A new upper level
trough will most likely move east into central Australia on Saturday, extending
high cloud into southwestern Queensland that will extend eastwards on Sunday.
Widespread showers and isolated storms will persist through Torres Strait in a
moist and unstable airmass.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
