MELBOURNE - Apr 18/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system will strengthen as it moves to the south of Tasmania today, whilst a low pressure system develops off the east coast of New South Wales. The high will extend a ridge northwards across Victoria on Saturday as the low pressure system moves slowly away to the east. A cold front will approach western Victoria late Sunday but is expected to weaken as it crosses the State on Monday. Another front will move through Bass Strait Monday night. Forecast for the rest of FridayScattered showers in the southeast, tending to rain areas over East Gippsland. Showers falling as snow about Alpine areas. Isolated showers also about the central coast and the Otway ranges, but dry elsewhere. A cool day with light to moderate southeasterly winds, fresh to strong in the east and locally reaching gale force about Alpine areas.Fire Danger - Moderate to High.Saturday 20 AprilScattered showers over East Gippsland, isolated showers over the remainder of Gippsland and about the Otway ranges but dry and mostly sunny elsewhere. Local early frost, then a cool to mild day with light to moderate southeast to easterly winds.Sunday 21 AprilLocal early morning fog and frost. Cloud increasing from the west and northerly wind freshening. Patchy rain extending from the western border during the afternoon and evening but remaining dry over the far southeast. A cool to mild day.Monday 22 AprilPatchy rain contracting eastwards and clearing during the afternoon. Scattered showers reaching the southwest late afternoon then extending eastwards during the evening.
