Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 18/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A surface trough extends from the Gulf Country through the central west to
the southeast interior of Queensland. A S to SE change is expected to move into
southern Queensland waters Friday afternoon and evening. An upper trough is
expected to move east across southern Queensland during Friday. A high over the
Southern Ocean extends a ridge over southwest Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Mostly fine across the state. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms
about the southeast and central parts of the state. Isolated showers over the
eastern tropics and northern Cape York Peninsula. Moderate SE to NE winds about
the east coast. Light to moderate SW to SE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Friday
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over central districts and the
Central West. Isolated showers over parts of the southeast and northern Cape
York Peninsula. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Moderate SE to NE winds along
the tropical and central coasts, shifting NW to SW along the southern coast
ahead of a moderate S to SE change during the afternoon and evening. Moderate SW
to SW winds elsewhere, gusty at times.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will slowly move into the Tasman Sea while maintaining a ridge along
the east coast of Queensland, while the upper level trough will move north over
central districts and weaken. Fine and mostly sunny across most of the state.
Isolated to scattered showers and possible isolated thunderstorms over the
southeast tropics, with isolated showers along the southern Queensland coast.
Cool temperatures over southern districts.
Forecast for Sunday
The ridge along the east coast should continue to weaken, and the associated
weakening of the onshore winds should leave most of the eastern districts fine
except for isolated showers about central districts and the southeast tropics.
An upper trough approaching southwest Queensland will generate cloudy conditions
with patchy light rain, but little rainfall expected. A cool morning in southern
and central districts.
Forecast for Monday
The upper trough moves rapidly across southern districts, accompanied by
cloud and patchy light rain or showers. A surface trough is expected to lie
across the central or eastern interior. A weak onshore flow may produce isolated
showers about parts of the tropical east coast. Fine elsewhere with maximum
temperatures above average in the northwest.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
A series of upper troughs, combined with a surface trough over the interior
of the state will increase the potential for showers and thunderstorms in
southern and central Queensland. Cloud may also increase over western Queensland
but with little or no rain initially, ahead of a more significant upper trough
that may develop over South Australia during Wednesday and Thursday. Mostly fine
over the rest of the state, apart from increasing showers and isolated
thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula. Temperatures generally near average in
the southern interior, and slightly above average elsewhere.
