Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 17/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A surface trough extends from the Gulf Country through the central west to
the southeast interior of Queensland. An upper trough over the southeast will
contract offshore early today. A high is expected to approach Tasmania from the
west and will maintain dry and mostly sunny conditions across much of
Queensland's interior.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Mostly fine across the state. Isolated afternoon and evening showers and the
chance of a thunderstorm or two about the southeast and central parts of the
state. Isolated showers over Cape York Peninsula. Light winds over the interior
and the Gulf Country, with moderate SE to NE winds about the east coast.
Forecast for Friday
The high will move over Tasmania and extend a ridge along the east coast as
another upper trough strengthens over central Queensland. A southerly wind
change will move into the state's far southeast. Most of the state will be fine
and mostly sunny. Isolated showers about the southern coast and parts of central
Queensland, with possible thunderstorms over the Capricornia and southern
Central Highlands and Coalfields districts. Isolated showers persisting over
northern Cape York Peninsula.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will slowly move into the Tasman Sea while maintaining a ridge along
the east coast of Queensland, while the upper level trough will move north over
central districts and weaken. Fine and mostly sunny across most of the state.
Isolated to scattered showers over the southeast tropics and far southeast
coast. Cooler temperatures over southern districts.
Forecast for Sunday
The east coast ridge should continue to weaken, and the associated weakening
of the onshore winds should leave most of the eastern districts fine except for
just a few isolated showers about the central coast. An upper trough approaching
southwest Queensland will generate cloudy conditions with patchy light rain,
with little or no precipitation expected to reach the ground. Cool overnight
temperatures over southern and central districts.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
A series of upper troughs, combined with a surface trough through the
interior of the state will increase the potential for showers and thunderstorms
in southern and central Queensland. Mostly fine over the rest of the state,
isolated showers and thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Thursday.
