MELBOURNE - Apr 16/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak ridge of high pressure extends across Victoria with a cold front approaching southwest Victoria from the Southern Ocean. The cold front will move through Bass Strait Wednesday night and Thursday morning as the next high pressure system develops south of the Bight. The high will move steadily eastwards on Thursday, passing to the south of Tasmania on Friday as a low pressure system develops in the Tasman Sea. The high will move south of New Zealand over the weekend maintaining a weak ridge across Victoria on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayLocal morning fog patches mainly in the south. Isolated showers about the eastern ranges and developing over the southwest coast during the evening. Fine elsewhere. Cool to mild and Partly cloudy with moderate southerly winds.Fire Danger - Low to moderate.Thursday 18 AprilScattered showers in southern and mountain districts, possibly falling as snow later about the Alpine peaks. The chance of thunderstorms over the southeast. Fine over the northern plains. Cool with moderate to locally fresh southerly winds.Friday 19 AprilScattered showers in the southeast, possibly falling as snow about the peaks in the morning and becoming more isolated during the day. Cool day with light to moderate southeasterly winds.Saturday 20 AprilIsolated showers in the southeast, clearing in the afternoon.
