Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 16/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A surface trough extends from the Gulf Country down to the southeast
interior. An upper trough will move eastwards across the state's southern
interior during today.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Mostly fine across the state. Isolated afternoon and evening showers and
gusty thunderstorms across the state's southeast and over the southeast tropics.
Mostly fine across most of the remaining eastern districts except for some very
isolated showers. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the Peninsula
district. Fine and mostly sunny over the interior. Mostly light winds over the
interior and about the Gulf Country, and moderate SE to NE winds about the east
coast.
Forecast for Thursday
A new high is expected to approach Tasmania from the west and will maintain
dry air and fine and mostly sunny conditions across much of Queensland's
interior. Much of the east of the state and southern tropics should also be fine
but a new upper level trough and some lingering humidity about the southeast of
the state may be enough to produce some isolated showers and possibly isolated
thunderstorms. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms over Cape York
Peninsula.
Forecast for Friday
The high will move over Tasmania and extend a ridge up the east coast as
another upper trough strengthens over southern Queensland. The high should push
a late southerly wind change into the state's far southeast. Most of the state
will be fine and mostly sunny though there's just the chance of a few isolated
showers about the southeast coast and some isolated showers and storms over the
Wide Bay and Burnett region. Isolated showers over Cape York Peninsula.
Forecast for Saturday
The east coast ridge should weaken a little but there should be enough
onshore wind flow to work with an upper level trough and produce some isolated
showers and storms over the southeast tropics and Central Coast. Mostly fine
about the southeast except for just the chance of some isolated showers about
the Sunshine Coast and hinterland. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of
the state.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The ridge should continue to weaken during Sunday, and the associated
weakening of the onshore winds should leave most of the eastern districts fine
except for just a few isolated showers. Another upper trough will increase
potential for showers and thunderstorms in southern Queensland, especially on
Monday and Tuesday. Mostly fine over the rest of the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Wednesday.
