Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 15/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A trough lies from a low off the northeast tropical coast of Queensland to a
deep low that is moving southeast over the Tasman Sea. An upper trough over the
far west of the state will move quickly east and be over the east coast by late
Tuesday. Meanwhile, surface trough in the southwest of the state will move
slowly eastwards today and tomorrow.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
High cloud extending east through southern parts of the state though with
little, if any, rainfall expected. Isolated thunderstorms are possible over the
far southwest of the state. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms through
the southeast and central interior and northern parts of the southern interior.
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in the tropics. Isolated showers
about remaining eastern districts. Fine and partly cloudy conditions are
expected in the North West district. Light to moderate mostly SE to NE winds
over eastern districts. Moderate S to SW winds extending through western and
central districts, fresh at times in the Channel Country. A Very High fire
danger in the Channel Country.
Forecast for Tuesday
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms expected in the eastern half of
the state, particularly about the Central Highlands, Capricornia and southeast
districts on and east of the Great Dividing Range and through the northern
tropics. Dry and mostly sunny conditions will extend through western districts
and the southern interior in the wake of the trough. Winds east of trough will
be mostly light NW to NE in southern parts and SE to NE in northern parts. Winds
west of the trough will tend moderate S to SW winds and possibly reaching fresh
at times in the morning.
Forecast for Wednesday
The upper trough should weaken over the state's southeast interior but it is
expected to maintain some instability over the east districts. A new high should
enter the Great Australian Bight and push dry air into the interior of the
state. Much of the interior of the state should therefore see fine and mostly
sunny conditions. Isolated showers are likely to persist about the eastern
districts with the chance of some afternoon or evening thunderstorms about the
southeast districts and the state's far north.
Forecast for Thursday
The high is expected to move east across the Great Australian Bight and
continue to direct dry air across much of the interior of the state with fine
and sunny conditions prevailing here. Much of the east of the state and southern
tropic should also be fine but lingering instability about the southeast of the
state should generate isolated showers. Isolated showers and possible
thunderstorms should continue over the far north of the state.
Forecast for Friday
The high will move over Tasmania as another upper trough amplifies over
southern Queensland. This upper trough will induce a surface trough that will
extend from the southern interior into the central interior. East of the trough
there will be increasing instability, therefore, there is likely to be shower
and thunderstorm activity in this area, especially about the Darling Downs and
Granite Belt.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
A high should drift across the Tasman sea during the outlook period, while a
series of upper troughs moving across southern Queensland. Scattered showers
and isolated thunderstorms will develop east of a surface trough that will
develop in the southern and central interior. Mostly fine over the rest of the
state, with only isolated showers about remaining parts of the east coast and in
the far north tropics.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
