MELBOURNE - Apr 14/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A trough lies from a low off the northeast tropical coast of Queensland to a deep low that is moving southeast over the Tasman Sea. A new upper trough will move into the west of the state today. A surface trough will enter the southwest of the state this morning and move eastwards into the southern interior by late today. Forecast for the rest of Monday High cloud extending east through southern parts of the state though with little, if any, rainfall expected. Isolated thunderstorms are possible over the far southwest of the state. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms through the central interior. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in the tropics. Isolated showers about remaining eastern districts. Fine and partly cloudy conditions are expected in the North West district. Light to moderate mostly SE to NE winds over eastern districts. Moderate S to SW winds extending through western and central districts, fresh at times in the Channel Country. A Very High fire danger in the Channel Country. Forecast for Tuesday The upper trough is expected to move eastwards to extend from the tropical interior into southeast districts. Instability will increase to the east of this trough with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms expected, particularly about the Central Highlands, Capricornia and southeast districts on and east of the Great Dividing Range and through the northern tropics. Dry and mostly sunny conditions will extend through western districts and the southern interior in the wake of the trough. Forecast for Wednesday The upper trough should weaken over the state's southeast interior but it is expected to maintain some instability over the east of the state. A new high should enter the Great Australian Bight and push dry air into the interior of the state. Much of the interior of the state should therefore see fine and mostly sunny conditions. Isolated showers are likely to persist about the eastern districts and the Central Highlands and Coalfields region with the chance of some afternoon or evening thunderstorms about the southeast districts and the state's far north. Forecast for Thursday The high is expected to continue east across the Great Australian Bight and will continue to direct dry air across much of the interior of the state with fine and sunny conditions prevailing here. Much of the east of the state and southern tropic should also be fine but lingering instability about the southeast of the state should generate isolated showers. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms should continue over the far north of the state. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday A high should drift across the Tasman sea during the outlook period, extending a firm ridge and fresh SE winds along the east Queensland coast late in the week. Isolated showers will develop about the state's southeast and over parts of the tropical east coast in this freshening wind flow. Conditions should remain mostly fine through the interior during the outlook period, though there's the chance of some isolated showers about the southern interior late in the week. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Monday.
