Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 7/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for waters from Cooktown to
Gladstone.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1026 hPa] in the Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east coast of
Queensland. A surface trough lies off the Central Coast.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Scattered showers along most of the east coast, more isolated over the
eastern and northern interior. Some areas of light rain early in the morning
central coast, clearing offshore by late morning. Fine and mostly sunny over the
interior and most of the Gulf Country. Showers and thunderstorms possibly
tending to rain areas over Cape York Peninsula. Moderate to fresh SE winds
about most of the east coast. Mainly moderate E to SE winds elsewhere. A Very
High Fire danger over the Channel Country and Northwest districts.
Forecast for Tuesday
A high pressure system should move into the Tasman Sea, maintaining a ridge
of high pressure, fresh SE winds and mainly scattered showers along Queensland's
east coast. More isolated showers over the eastern and northern interior. A
surface trough over the northwest Coral Sea should cause more widespread
showers, possible thunderstorms and areas of rain about the North Tropical
Coast, with some moderate to locally heavy falls possible. Fine and mostly
sunny in the state's southwest.
Forecast for Wednesday
The upper level trough should extend from the southeast to the northwest of
the state and strengthen during the day, and it, along with a deepening surface
trough just off the northeast coast should maintain widespread showers, rain
areas and isolated thunderstorms over the northeast tropics and some moderate to
heavy falls between about Cooktown and Cardwell. Scattered showers about the
remainder of the east coast in the onshore flow, and with instability provided
by the upper trough, there may be some local thunder. Mostly fine over the
central and southeast interior except for some isolated, mainly light showers.
Fine and mostly sunny over the western districts.
Forecast for Thursday
An upper level low may form within the upper trough over Central Queensland
while the surface trough over the northwestern Coral Sea may strengthen in
response, causing further rain areas and thunderstorms with moderate to heavy
falls over parts of the northern tropics. Scattered showers are also likely to
continue over remaining eastern districts, and there should also be at least
isolated storms over the northern interior. Remaining fine and mostly sunny
over the far southwest.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The upper trough should remain over Queensland's interior late in the week,
and it, along with a continuing onshore flow should result in mainly scattered
showers about the eastern districts. Rain should begin to ease over the northern
tropics on Friday as the surface trough or low moves away to the southeast. Fine
and mostly sunny over the interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
