An upper level trough lies over Central Queensland and is expected to move eastwards off the east coast on Monday. Scattered showers about the remainder of the east coast. Isolated showers developing over eastern inland areas. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula. Fine in the far west. Isolated showers over the northern interior. Moderate to fresh SE winds about the east coast, mainly moderate SE to E winds elsewhere. A Very High Fire danger over the Channel Country and Northwest districts. Forecast for Tuesday A high pressure system should move into the Tasman Sea, maintaining a ridge of high pressure, fresh SE winds and scattered showers along Queensland's east coast. A surface trough over the northwest Coral Sea will lead to more widespread showers, possible thunderstorms and areas of rain about the northeast coast, with some moderate to locally heavy falls possible. Isolated showers about the southeast interior, central interior and the northwest. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Forecast for Wednesday The upper level trough extending from the southeast to the northwest of the state will strengthen during the day, and it, along with a deepening surface trough just off the northeast coast should result in widespread showers, rain areas and isolated thunderstorms over the northeast tropics and some moderate to heavy falls between about Cooktown and Townsville. Scattered showers about the remainder of the east coast in the onshore flow, and with instability provided by the upper trough, some of these may be heavy with thunder. Mostly fine over the central and southeast interior except for some isolated, mainly light showers. Fine and mostly sunny over the western districts. Strong winds are likely to develop over coastal waters between Cardwell and Yeppoon during the day as the offshore trough deepens. Forecast for Thursday The upper trough will remain slow moving and evolve into an upper low over the central highlands of Queensland, while the surface trough over the northwestern Coral Sea will deepen in response. This is likely to lead to a continuation of rain areas and thunderstorms with moderate to heavy falls over the northern tropics. Scattered showers are also likely to continue over remaining eastern districts, but it should remain fine over the west. Strong winds are likely over coastal waters between about Cairns and Burnett Heads due to the deepening of the offshore trough. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday The upper trough should remain over Queensland's interior late in the week, and it, along with a continuing onshore flow should result in mainly scattered showers about the eastern districts. Rain should begin to ease over the northern tropics on Friday as the surface trough or low moves away to the southeast. Fine and mostly sunny over the west. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Monday.
