MELBOURNE - Mar 30/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Flood Warning is current for the Balonne River. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high east of New Zealand extends a weakening ridge along the east Queensland coast. A surface trough lies over western Queensland and into the southern interior, while a weak monsoon trough lies over the northern reaches of the Gulf of Carpentaria. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Isolated showers over southeast and central districts, as well as the southern interior, tending scattered about the Wide Bay and Burnett and Capricornia districts. Chance of isolated thunderstorms over the central and southeast interior. Isolated showers about the tropical coast. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms about the Gulf Country. Late rain and thunderstorms over the far southwest. Cloudy over the remainder of western Queensland with a little light rain. Light to moderate SE to NE winds across most of the state, fresh at times about the southeast and far northeast coasts. A Very High fire danger over the Channel Country. Forecast for Sunday An upper level trough should move eastwards across southern Queensland producing areas of rain, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms across the southern districts. Additionally a surface trough over the southeast interior is likely to become the focus of scattered thunderstorm development during the day. These thunderstorms are likely to move eastwards towards the southeast coast late in the day, and some of them may be severe with moderate to locally heavy falls. The absence of a substantial onshore wind flow will leave most of the remainder of the eastern districts fine, though isolated showers are possible about parts of the tropical coast. Cloudy with little or no rain over the tropical interior, with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms about the Gulf Country coast. Cool in the cloudy conditions across the south of the state. Forecast for Monday The upper trough should push northwards across the state during the day, resulting in the areas of rain, scattered showers and isolated storms moving into the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia and Wide Bay and Burnett districts. Early rain areas breaking up to a mainly fine day with just some isolated showers about the far southeast. Fine and mostly sunny across the remainder of the state except for the chance of some isolated showers and storms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast and isolated showers about parts of the far northeast. Forecast for Tuesday The upper trough should push further northwards, but dry air feeding into it should cause the areas of rain to clear. Nevertheless the upper trough should be able to produce enough instability to generate scattered showers and isolated storms over the state's northeast. Fine and mostly sunny over most of the remainder of the state except for some isolated showers and storms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast and isolated showers about the Fraser coast. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday A high pressure system should drift across Victoria, extending dry air and fine conditions across most of Queensland. The associated onshore winds should push some mainly isolated showers across Queensland's east coast. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Saturday.
