MELBOURNE - Mar 28/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Flood Warning is current for the Balonne River.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high near New Zealand extends a weakening ridge along the east Queensland
coast. A surface trough is drifting to the northeast across the state's
southwest. A weak monsoon trough lies over the northern reaches of the Gulf of
Carpentaria.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Scattered showers and storms and patchy areas of rain about the state's far
northwest. More isolated showers and thunderstorms over the remainder of the
northern tropics. Mainly fine across a lot of the state's far east except for
some isolated showers. Cloudy over the southern interior with isolated showers
and thunderstorms. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Light to moderate SE to NE
winds across most of the state. Moderate to fresh southerly winds spreading
across the southern interior.
Forecast for Friday
The ridge along the east coast will continue to weaken whilst the surface
trough moves further east, reaching the western Darling Downs late in the day.
Isolated and storms are expected about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast, and mainly
isolated showers about the tropical east coast. A southerly change should move
north through far southern waters and combine with an upper trough over
southeast Queensland to produce some showers and thunderstorms over the
southeast coast and southeast interior, though limited humidity levels will mean
the activity will be quite isolated and a lot of people will experience mainly
fine conditions. Cloudy with below average temperatures, scattered showers,
isolated storms and some patchy rain areas over the southern interior. Fine and
mostly sunny elsewhere. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds across
most of the state, fresh at times about the southeast and far northeast
coasts.
Forecast for Saturday
A weak ridge will develop along the east coast as a weak high develops in the
Tasman Sea whilst another surface trough should lie across the southern
interior. Isolated showers and storms are expected near the trough over the
southern parts of the Central Highlands district and also over the Wide Bay and
Burnett and the Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts. Isolated showers over
the Southeast Coast district, and also about the east coast north of about
Townsville. Becoming cloudy with patchy rain and isolated storms late in the day
about the far southwest of the state. Fine and mostly sunny over the northern
interior, although isolated showers and storms are possible about the Gulf of
Carpentaria coast.
Forecast for Sunday
An upper level trough should spread a cloud band with areas of rain,
scattered showers and isolated storms across the southern districts, extending
eastwards during the day. Moderate falls are likely about the Darling Downs and
Granite Belt districts. A weak onshore wind flow should produce mainly isolated
showers about the eastern tropics, and isolated showers and storms are possible
about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine and mostly sunny over the northern
tropical interior. Cool in the cloudy conditions across the south of the state.
Forecast for Monday
The upper trough should push northwards across the state during the day,
resulting in the areas of rain, scattered showers and isolated storms moving
into the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia and Wide Bay and Burnett
districts. Early rain areas breaking up to isolated showers during the day about
the southeast and the southeast interior. Fine and mostly sunny across the
remainder of the state except for the chance of some isolated showers and storms
about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast and isolated showers about the tropical east
coast.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The upper level trough should move further to the north and may produce some
rain areas and isolated storms about the Central Highlands and Coalfields and
the Central Coast and Whitsundays districts on Tuesday, clearing during Tuesday
night. Mainly isolated showers about the remainder of the state's east coast,
and isolated showers and storms are possible about the Gulf of Carpentaria
coast. Fine and mostly sunny across the rest of the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Friday.
