and east during the day. A weak monsoon trough lies over the northern reaches of
the Gulf of Carpentaria.

winds across most of the state. Moderate to fresh southerly winds spreading
across the state's southwest. A Very High fire danger in the Channel Country and
western Maranoa and Warrego district.

trough will move further east, reaching the western Darling Downs late in the
day. Scattered showers and isolated storms are expected about the Gulf of
Carpentaria coast. Isolated showers about the central and tropical east coast.
A southerly change is expected to move north through far southern waters and
combine with an upper trough over southeast Queensland to produce isolated
showers and thunderstorms over the southeast coast and southeast interior.
Cloudy with scattered showers, isolated storms and some patchy rain areas over
the southern interior. Below average maximum temperatures under the cloud
across much of southern and western Queensland. Fine and mostly sunny
elsewhere.
Forecast for Saturday
A weak ridge will develop along the east coast as a weak high develops in the
Tasman Sea whilst another surface trough should enter the far southwest of the
state late in the day. Scattered showers and isolated storms over the southern,
southeast and central interior regions, and also about the Wide Bay and Burnett
and Capricornia districts. Isolated showers about the far southeast. Cloud
should increase about the far southwest of the state late in the day with patchy
rain and isolated thunderstorms developing. Fine and mostly sunny over the
northern interior, although isolated showers and storms are possible about the
Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Mainly isolated showers about the eastern
tropics.
Forecast for Sunday
An upper level trough should spread a cloud band with areas of rain,
scattered showers and isolated storms across the southern districts, extending
eastwards during the day. Moderate falls are likely about the Darling Downs and
Granite Belt districts. A weak onshore wind flow should produce mainly isolated
showers about the eastern tropics, and isolated showers and storms are possible
about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine and mostly sunny over the northern
tropical interior. Cool under the cloudy conditions across the south of the
state.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The upper level trough may produce areas of rain and isolated storms about
the southeast tropics on Monday before contracting offshore overnight. Scattered
showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely to persist about the southeast of
the state. Mainly isolated showers elsewhere about the east coast. Isolated
showers and storms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine and mostly sunny
over the much of the west and southern interior.
