MELBOURNE - Mar 28/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Flood Warning is current for the Balonne River. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high near New Zealand extends a weakening ridge along the east Queensland coast. A surface trough in the far southwest of the state will move slowly north and east during the day. A weak monsoon trough lies over the northern reaches of the Gulf of Carpentaria. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Scattered showers and storms and patchy areas of rain about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the remainder of the northern tropics. Scattered morning showers about the east coast, becoming isolated during the day. Cloud over the southwest extending into the southern interior with isolated showers and thunderstorms. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Cooler in the far southwest of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds across most of the state. Moderate to fresh southerly winds spreading across the state's southwest. A Very High fire danger in the Channel Country and western Maranoa and Warrego district. Forecast for Friday The ridge along the east coast will continue to weaken whilst the surface trough will move further east, reaching the western Darling Downs late in the day. Scattered showers and isolated storms are expected about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Isolated showers about the central and tropical east coast. A southerly change is expected to move north through far southern waters and combine with an upper trough over southeast Queensland to produce isolated showers and thunderstorms over the southeast coast and southeast interior. Cloudy with scattered showers, isolated storms and some patchy rain areas over the southern interior. Below average maximum temperatures under the cloud across much of southern and western Queensland. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Forecast for Saturday A weak ridge will develop along the east coast as a weak high develops in the Tasman Sea whilst another surface trough should enter the far southwest of the state late in the day. Scattered showers and isolated storms over the southern, southeast and central interior regions, and also about the Wide Bay and Burnett and Capricornia districts. Isolated showers about the far southeast. Cloud should increase about the far southwest of the state late in the day with patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms developing. Fine and mostly sunny over the northern interior, although isolated showers and storms are possible about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Mainly isolated showers about the eastern tropics. Forecast for Sunday An upper level trough should spread a cloud band with areas of rain, scattered showers and isolated storms across the southern districts, extending eastwards during the day. Moderate falls are likely about the Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts. A weak onshore wind flow should produce mainly isolated showers about the eastern tropics, and isolated showers and storms are possible about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine and mostly sunny over the northern tropical interior. Cool under the cloudy conditions across the south of the state. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday The upper level trough may produce areas of rain and isolated storms about the southeast tropics on Monday before contracting offshore overnight. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely to persist about the southeast of the state. Mainly isolated showers elsewhere about the east coast. Isolated showers and storms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine and mostly sunny over the much of the west and southern interior.
