MELBOURNE - Mar 27/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Flood Warning is current for the Balonne River. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high over the Tasman Sea extends a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. A surface trough is expected to enter the Channel Country region from the west early on Thursday morning. A weak monsoon trough lies over the northern reaches of the Gulf of Carpentaria. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Scattered showers, isolated storms and patchy areas of rain about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Mainly fine with just isolated showers and storms over the far northern tropical interior. Mainly isolated showers over the far eastern districts, more widespread about the state's southeast. Fine and clear over the remainder of the state except for isolated showers and storms in the far southwest. Moderate SE to NE winds across most of the state. Moderate to fresh NW to SW winds about the Channel Country. Forecast for Thursday A weak monsoon trough should remain over the far northern parts of the Gulf of Carpentaria, and scattered showers, isolated storms and patchy areas of rain are again expected about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the remainder of the northern tropics. Generally isolated showers are expected over the eastern districts in a moist onshore airflow. The new surface trough will continue to move east over the southwest of Queensland, with cooler conditions, and isolated showers and thunderstorms over the region. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Above average temperatures over the west of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds across most of the state, a moderate to fresh southerly winds spreading across the state's southwest. Forecast for Friday Scattered showers and isolated storms are expected about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Mainly isolated showers about the tropical east coast, more widespread about the north tropical coast. A southerly change is likely to move north through far southern waters and combine with an upper trough over southeast Queensland to produce isolated showers and thunderstorms over the southeast coast and southeast interior. Scattered showers, isolated storms and some patchy rain areas over the southern interior. Below average maximum temperatures under the cloud across much of southern and western Queensland. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Forecast for Saturday Scattered showers and isolated storms over the southern, southeast and central interior regions, and also about the Wide Bay and Burnett and Capricornia districts. Isolated showers about the far southeast. Fine and mostly sunny over the northern interior, and isolated showers and storms are possible about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Mainly isolated showers about the eastern tropics. Forecast for Sunday An upper level trough should spread a cloud band with areas of rain, scattered showers and isolated storms across the southern districts, extending eastwards during the day. A weak onshore wind flow should produce mainly isolated showers about the eastern tropics, and isolated showers and storms are possible about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine and mostly sunny over the northern tropical interior. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday The upper level trough may produce areas of rain and isolated storms about the southeast tropics on Monday before contracting offshore overnight. Mainly isolated showers elsewhere about the east coast. Isolated showers and storms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast, and fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state.
