Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 27/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A trough and associated cold front over South Australia will reach southwestern Victoria early this afternoon before extending to central parts of the State in the evening. The front will catch up to the trough on Thursday morning over eastern Victoria before moving out over the Tasman Sea late on Thursday. A high pressure ridge will extend across northern Victoria on Friday and is expected to persist just north of Victoria over the Easter period while weak cold fronts cross Tasmania.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayFine at first. Areas of rain and isolated thunderstorms developing over western districts in the afternoon then extending to central districts at night. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms also developing by evening in the northeast. A hot day with increasing cloud and fresh northerly winds, strong about southwestern and central regions before a fresh westerly change develops from the west in the afternoon.Fire Danger -  Very High to Severe over western and central areas. High to Very High in eastern areas.Thursday 28 MarchAreas of rain and possible thunderstorms contracting to eastern districts in the afternoon and the far east at night. Scattered showers to follow near and south of the ranges. Isolated thunderstorms possible near the southwestern and central coast in the afternoon and evening. A cool to mild day with moderate to fresh west to northwesterly winds tending west to southwesterly from the west in the afternoon and evening.Friday 29 MarchIsolated showers in the south, mainly on the coast. Fine over the north. A cool to mild day with moderate westerly winds over the south turning southerly in the north.Saturday 30 MarchIsolated showers in the south, mainly on the coast. Fine over the north. A mild day, mostly sunny in the north but partly cloudy in the south. Light to moderate west to southwesterly winds, fresh at times on the coast.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Wednesday.Product IDV10310
