monsoon trough will remain slow moving through the Torres Strait, connected to a
low over the "Top End" of the Northern Territory. A weak surface trough over the
Coral Sea is expected to cross the east coast early on Wednesday.

Peninsula. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the remainder of
the northern tropics. Mostly fine about the remainder of the east coast with
only isolated showers. Scattered showers and gusty thunderstorms over the
central and southern interior. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. Moderate SE to
NE winds, fresh at times about the tropical east coast.

Country. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Above average temperatures over the
west of the state. Moderate SE to NE winds.
Forecast for Thursday
The monsoon trough is expected to remain through the Torres Strait,
connecting to a the low over the "Top End". This will lead to further widespread
showers, storms and areas of rain over northern Cape York Peninsula, and
spreading over the northwest Gulf Country. Scattered showers and isolated
thunderstorms over the remainder of the northern tropics. Generally isolated
showers are expected along the remainder of the east coast in the moist onshore
airflow. The new surface trough will continue to move east over the southwest of
Queensland, with cooler conditions, patchy rain areas, isolated showers and
thunderstorms over southwest parts. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Above
average temperatures over the west of the state.
Forecast for Friday
The low over the far north of the Northern Territory is expected to remain
slow moving with the monsoon trough likely to persist over the far north of the
state. This will lead to further showers, storms and rain areas over northern
Cape York Peninsula and in to the northwest Gulf Country. Scattered showers and
isolated thunderstorms over the remainder of the northern tropics. A southerly
change is likely to move north through far southern waters and combine with an
upper trough over southeast Queensland to produce isolated showers and
thunderstorms over the southeast. Isolated showers over the remainder of the
east coast. The surface trough over the interior is expected to stretch from the
northwest of the state to the southeast interior with isolated showers and
thunderstorms and patchy rain areas for much of the southern and southeast
interior. Cool maximum temperatures under the cloud across much of southern and
western Queensland. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.
Forecast for Saturday
The through is expected to lie from the northwest of the state to the
southeast interior whilst and upper trough should move across central Australia.
Cloudy and cool conditions with patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms should
stretch from the northwest of the state to the southeast interior. Isolated
showers and possible thunderstorms about the southeast of the state. Only
isolated showers elsewhere about the east coast in the weak onshore flow.
Showers and thunderstorms should persist across the far northern tropics. Fine
and partly cloudy conditions elsewhere.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
There is some uncertainty for the outlook period, but an upper trough is
likely to move eastwards across the south of the state on Sunday before clearing
off the southeast coast on Monday. The surface trough should also continue
moving east over southern Queensland, and is likely to reach the southeast of
the state on Sunday and Monday. Showers and thunderstorms and rain areas are
expected to develop near and east of this trough during Sunday and Monday,
before clearing offshore to leave isolated showers about the east coast on
Tuesday. Isolated showers and thunderstorms should persist across the northern
tropics.
