For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high east of New Zealand extends a ridge along the tropical east Queensland
coast. A surface trough lies over the Queensland interior moving very slowly
eastwards, and it is expected to push further west once again during the week.
An upper level trough is moving over eastern Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Scattered showers, rain areas and isolated thunderstorms over the northern
tropics, with scattered showers about the North Tropical Coast district.
Scattered showers and gusty thunderstorms over the Gulf Country, and in a band
from the Central West to the southeast of the state. Early fog patches in the
east and southeast. Maximum temperatures above average in the west and south.
Fresh and gusty SE winds along the tropical east coast. Moderate gusty S to SE
winds over the southwest. Moderate SE to NE winds over the remainder of the
state. A Very High Fire danger in the Channel Country.
Forecast for Tuesday
The monsoon trough moving slowly southwards about the northern Peninsula is
expected to continue producing widespread showers, storms and areas of rain over
northern Cape York Peninsula, with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms
over the remainder of the northern tropics. Isolated showers elsewhere about the
east coast as a ridge returns to these areas. Isolated showers and gusty
thunderstorms developing during the afternoon and evening over the southern
interior, east of the weak surface trough lying over the Channel Country. Fine
and mostly sunny elsewhere. Above average temperatures over the west of the
state.
Forecast for Wednesday
The monsoon trough is expected to remain over far northern Queensland,
connected to a low over the "Top End", with widespread showers, storms and areas
of rain continuing over northern Cape York Peninsula and spreading to the
northwest Gulf Country. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the
remainder of the northern tropics. A weak surface trough over the Coral Sea is
likely to move onto the east coast and bring an increase in showers to most of
the remaining east coast, spreading into the adjacent inland during the day.
Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Above average temperatures over the west of the
state.
Forecast for Thursday
The monsoon trough is expected to remain over far northern Queensland, while
a low over the "Top End" will remain slow moving. This will lead to further
widespread showers, storms and areas of rain over northern Cape York Peninsula,
and spreading over the northwest Gulf Country. Scattered showers and isolated
thunderstorms over the remainder of the northern tropics. Generally isolated
showers are expected along the remainder of the east coast with a moist onshore
airflow. A new surface trough will enter southwest Queensland during the day,
with cooler conditions and patchy rain areas, isolated showers and thunderstorms
over southwest parts. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Above average
temperatures over the west of the state.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The ridge is expected to persist over eastern Queensland, maintaining
isolated showers about the coast, spreading to the adjacent inland areas during
the day. Widespread showers, storms and areas of rain are expected over the
northern tropics and northwest of the state due to the monsoon trough and the
low over the Northern Territory. The surface trough will continue moving east
over southern Queensland, reaching the east of the state on Saturday. Showers
and thunderstorms are expected to develop once again near and east of this
trough during the afternoon and evenings.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
