MELBOURNE - Mar 23/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure extends from the Bight to far northern Victoria. The ridge will persist during Sunday as a cold front moves rapidly across Bass Strait. A high pressure system will cross Victoria early Monday reaching the Tasman Sea later in the day. The high will approach New Zealand on Tuesday as a trough and associated cold front crosses the Bight. The trough will move across western Victoria Wednesday, the cold front will reach western Bass Strait later in the day. Forecast for the rest of SundayDry over the northern plains and over East Gippsland. Isolated showers developing over the southwest during the morning, extending to the Central district and West Gippsland during the day. Isolated thunderstorms possible about the southwest coast and near Wilsons Promontory this morning. A mild to warm and partly cloudy day. Moderate to fresh northwesterly winds gradually tending west to southwesterly.Fire Danger - Generally High reaching Very High in West and South Gippsland.Monday 25 MarchPatchy morning fog. Otherwise a dry, warm and mostly sunny day with light winds and afternoon seabreezes near the coast.Tuesday 26 MarchPatchy morning fog. Otherwise a dry, warm and mostly sunny day. Moderate northerly winds and afternoon seabreezes near the Gippsland coast.Wednesday 27 MarchPatchy morning fog in Gippsland. Areas of rain developing over western districts in the afternoon, extending to central districts in the evening.
