MELBOURNE - Mar 21/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Flood Warning is current for the Balonne River.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1033 hPa] over New Zealand extends a ridge along Queensland's east
coast. A surface trough is lying over far western Queensland, and another
surface trough lies to the north of the state.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Mainly isolated showers about the southeast coast, southeast tropics and
central interior. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms about the
northern tropics, more widespread about the north tropical coast. Isolated
showers and thunderstorms over the southwest and southern interior. Fine in a
band from the northwest to the southeast interior. Maximum temperatures above
average in the southwest. Moderate SE to NE winds over most of the state, fresh
at times about the east coast. Moderate NE to NW winds over the Channel
Country. A Very High Fire danger over the southern interior.
Forecast for Saturday
The ridge along Queensland's east coast should weaken, allowing the southeast
to be fine though partly cloudy. Mainly fine with just the chance of some
showers about the coast between about Mackay and the Sunshine Coast. More
widespread showers about the remainder of the east coast, particularly north of
about Ingham due to an approaching tropical trough. Scattered showers and
isolated thunderstorms over the remainder of the northern tropics. Scattered
showers and isolated thunderstorms about the southwest. Fine and mostly sunny
over the central interior. Maximum temperatures above average in the west and
southern interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The ridge along Queensland's east coast should continue to weaken, and the
showers should therefore clear from the central and southeast coast areas.
Scattered showers and isolated storms over the state's far north, more
widespread along the coast north of about Cairns. The rest of the state should
be fine and mostly sunny except for the southern and southeast interior where
scattered showers and isolated storms are expected. Maximum temperatures above
average in the west and south.
Forecast for Monday
An upper level trough should lie over a weak surface trough over the
southeast interior, and isolated showers and storms are expected to form during
the afternoon over the region as a result. The rest of the state should be fine
and mostly sunny, except for the far northern tropics where scattered showers
and isolated storms are expected, with more widespread activity likely north of
about Cairns. More isolated showers and storms are also possible about the
remainder of the tropical east coast. Above average temperatures over the west
of the state.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
A weak ridge is expected to persist along the east coast, pushing mainly
isolated showers across the east coast, and more widespread showers over the far
northeast coast. Instability is likely to persist over the northern tropics and
the Gulf Country early in the new week with scattered showers and thunderstorms
expected. Fine and mostly sunny across the remainder of the state. Maximum
temperatures remaining above average in the west.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Friday.
