MELBOURNE - Mar 21/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A deep low pressure system just west of Bass Strait will track southeastwards to cross southern Tasmania early on Friday then move away over the south Tasman Sea later on Friday while a high pressure ridge develops over northern Victoria. The ridge will persist over the weekend while weak cold fronts pass just south of Victoria on Saturday morning and on Sunday. A high pressure system will develop just to the east of Victoria on Monday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayAreas of rain and local thunderstorms over central and eastern districts, contracting to the far east late this evening. Local Severe thunderstorms at first, especially over the Northern Country and North central districts. Showers to follow in the south, mostly about the west coast. Strong to gale force northwest winds over most southern and elevated areas and the northwest, gradually easing after dark. Somewhat lighter winds in lower lying parts of Gippsland and the northeast.Friday 22 MarchPatchy rain in the far east clearing during the early morning. A partly cloudy day with isolated showers, mainly in the southwest and about the ranges. A mild day with light to moderate west to northwesterly winds, fresh to strong at first near the coast.Saturday 23 MarchIsolated showers over the southwest and locally in central parts but otherwise dry. Generally mild and partly cloudy with moderate northwesterly winds.Sunday 24 MarchIsolated showers in the southwest becoming scattered near the coast and extending to central areas during the day. A mild partly cloudy day with moderate northwest to westerly winds, fresh about the coast.Monday 25 MarchFine. A warm and mostly sunny day.
