MELBOURNE - Mar 20/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system to the south of Adelaide will deepen and approach Tasmania today. An associated cold front will enter western Victoria this morning and push across to the far east of the State by the evening. The low will slip away to the south of Tasmania on Friday allowing a weak ridge of high pressure to develop over northern Victoria. The ridge will persist on Saturday but another cold front will cross Bight waters to reach Victoria later on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayAreas of rain becoming more widespread along northern slopes of the divide during the morning with locally heavy falls. The chance of thunderstorms. The rain clearing from the west in the afternoon and over central parts towards evening, followed by isolated showers in the southwest. Warm, fresh to strong northerly winds, reaching gale force in southern and mountain areas, shifting cooler westerly from the west and moderating later.Fire Danger - High to Very High.Friday 22 MarchPatchy rain in the far east clearing during the early morning. A partly cloudy day with isolated showers persisting in the southwest and the chance of afternoon showers in most areas. A mild day with light to moderate west to northwesterly winds, fresh at first near the coast.Saturday 23 MarchIsolated showers over the southwest and locally in central parts but otherwise dry. Generally mild and partly cloudy with moderate northwesterly winds.Sunday 24 MarchIsolated showers in the southwest becoming scattered near the coast and extending to central areas late in the day.
