MELBOURNE - Mar 20/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood warnings are current for various rivers and streams. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation In the early hours of this morning ex-Tropical Cyclone Tim [1007 hPa] crossed the North Tropical Coast near Innisfail as a weak low, and is expected to dissipate completely as it tracks westwards during today. A high [1030 hPa] over the Tasman Sea extends a firm ridge along the southern and central coast of Queensland. A weak surface trough is lying over far western Queensland. An upper level trough is expected to move off the southeast coast this morning. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula and the Gulf Country. Cloudy with scattered showers, some rain areas and isolated thunderstorms about the coast and ranges between about Cardwell and Bowen. Cloudy with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the remainder of the eastern tropics, and areas of patchy morning rain near the Capricornia coast. Just the chance of some isolated showers and storms about the central interior. Mainly fine except for some isolated showers about the state's southeast, and some isolated showers and storms about the state's southwest during the afternoon and evening. Fine and mostly sunny in the western interior. Mild temperatures in eastern districts. Moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times about the east coast. A Very High fire danger over the southern interior. Forecast for Friday The high should lie to the east of New Zealand with a weakening ridge of high pressure along the east coast of Queensland. Isolated showers about the southeast coast, southeast tropics and central interior. Showers tending to rain at times about the north tropical coast. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms about the northern tropics. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the southwest and southern interior associated with a surface trough. Fine in a band from the northwest to the southeast interior. Maximum temperatures above average in the southwest. Forecast for Saturday The ridge along Queensland's east coast should weaken, allowing the southeast to clear to fine, though partly cloudy conditions. Mainly isolated showers about most of the remainder of the eastern districts, though more widespread showers are expected to tend to rain areas north of about Cooktown as a trough moves toward Cape York Peninsula from the Coral Sea. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the northern tropics, and fine and mostly sunny over the central west and northwest districts. Scattered showers and isolated storms about the southern interior. Maximum temperatures above average in the west and southern interior. Forecast for Sunday The ridge along Queensland's east coast should continue to weaken, allowing the southeast to remain fine and the showers about much of the remainder of the east coast to become more isolated. Showers tending to rain areas about the far northeast coast north of about Cooktown. Scattered showers and isolated storms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast, and also over the southern interior. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state. Maximum temperatures above average in the west and south. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday A weak ridge is expected to persist along the east coast, with an associated easing in the onshore wind flow shower activity about the southern tropical coast. Widespread showers and rain areas still expected north of Cooktown early in the week, though easing during the week. A restrengthening of the ridge during Tuesday should allow showers to return to most of the east coast. Instability is likely to persist over the northern tropics and the Gulf Country early in the new week with scattered showers and thunderstorms likely. Fine and mostly sunny across the remainder of the state. Maximum temperatures remaining above average in the west. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Thursday.
