Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between Cardwell and Double Island Point, excluding Hervey Bay. Flood warnings are current for various rivers and streams. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation At 1pm EST Wednesday, Ex-Tropical Cyclone Tim [1008 hPa] was located about 210 kilometres northeast of Townsville and moving west-northwest. Ex-Tropical Cyclone Tim is expected to continue move west-northwest towards the north tropical Queensland coast before crossing the coast as a weak low during Thursday morning. A high [1031 hPa] over the Tasman Sea extends a firm ridge along the southern and central coast of Queensland. A weak surface trough is lying over far western Queensland. An upper level trough over eastern Queensland is expected to move off the southeast Queensland coast early Thursday. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula and the Gulf Country. Scattered showers about the North Tropical Coast district. Cloudy with scattered showers, areas of rain and isolated thunderstorms about the Capricornia, Central Coast and Whitsundays, Herbert and Lower Burdekin districts with moderate to locally heavy falls. Scattered showers and patchy rain areas about remaining central districts and parts of the southeast. Isolated showers over the southeast interior. Fresh to strong and gusty SE winds from the southern tropical coast to the southern Queensland coast. Mostly moderate SE to NE winds over most of the remainder of the state. Forecast for Thursday Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula, the Gulf Country and far northwest of the state. Cloudy with widespread showers, rain areas and isolated thunderstorms about the coast and ranges between about Cooktown and Ingham with some heavy falls. Cloudy with scattered showers, areas of rain and isolated thunderstorms over the remainder of the eastern tropics with moderate to locally heavy falls about the coast and ranges mainly in the morning. Scattered showers and patchy rain areas over remaining central districts, with isolated afternoon thunderstorms over the central interior. Isolated showers over southeast districts, tending to scattered showers about the Southeast Coast in the morning. A cool day under the cloud in eastern districts. Fresh and gusty E to SE winds along most of the east coast. Mostly moderate SE to NE winds over the remainder of the state, tending fresh N to NE over the southwest. A Very High fire danger in the Channel Country, Maranoa and Warrego districts. Forecast for Friday The high should lie to the east of New Zealand with a weakening ridge of high pressure along the east coast of Queensland. Isolated showers about the east coast north of the Sunshine Coast and spreading into the central interior. These showers will remain more frequent about the central coast, and tend to rain at times about the north tropical coast with some moderate falls. Scattered showers and thunderstorms to continue about Cape York Peninsula and the Gulf Country, though rain areas may develop over eastern Cape York Peninsula due to an upper level trough. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the southwest and southern interior associated with a surface trough. Fine in the far southeast of the state. Maximum temperatures above average in the southwest. Forecast for Saturday The high is expected to move further east of New Zealand with the ridge along the east Queensland coast continuing to weaken. Isolated showers about the east coast north of Fraser Island, increasing to scattered showers about the north tropical coast. A trough is expected to move west from the Coral Sea and affect Cape York Peninsula with an increase in showers and thunderstorms and maintaining areas of rain over most of this district. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are also likely to spread over the northwest of the state as the surface trough persists over the southwest and southern interior, with isolated showers and thunderstorms expected over the latter areas. Fine over the southeast. Maximum temperatures above average in the west and southern interior. Forecast for Sunday The high is expected to be located well east of New Zealand with the ridge along the east Queensland coast continuing to weaken. Isolated showers about the east coast north of Fraser Island, increasing to scattered showers about the north tropical coast. The trough over the far north is expected to have moved over Cape York Peninsula, maintaining showers, rain areas and thunderstorms. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely over the Gulf Country and northwest of the state. In the south, the inland surface trough is likely to extend eastwards across the southern interior, with isolated showers and thunderstorms over the southwest and southern interior spreading into the southeast inland. Maximum temperatures above average in the west and south. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday A weak ridge is expected to persist along the east coast, with an associated easing in the onshore wind flow and isolated coastal showers, mainly in the tropics initially. The surface trough is expected to move over the Southeast Coast late Monday or Tuesday with isolated showers and thunderstorms. The ridge is then likely to strengthen a little on Wednesday allowing showers to return to most of the east coast once again. Instability is likely to persist over the northern tropics and the Gulf Country during the period with scattered showers and thunderstorms likely. Maximum temperatures remaining above average in the west. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Thursday.
