MELBOURNE - Mar 19/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the Tasman sea will drifting slowly southeastwards towards New Zealand today, while a low pressure system will develop south of the Bight with an associated cold front moving across South Australia. The cold front will cross Victoria on Thursday as the low intensifies and then slips south of Tasmania. A weak ridge of high pressure will lie over Victoria on Friday and a weaker cold front will move across southern Victoria on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers developing in the afternoon over the northern central regions and the eastern ranges. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere although cloud increasing from the west later in the afternoon. Moderate northerly winds, freshening over western and central districts during the afternoon.Fire Danger - Very High.Thursday 21 MarchAreas of rain and isolated thunderstorms extending eastwards during the morning and becoming more widespread along northern slopes of the divide. Rain clearing from the west during the afternoon with isolated showers persisting about the southwest coast. Warm, fresh to strong northerly winds, reaching gale force on the alpine peaks, shifting cooler westerly from the west and moderating later.Friday 22 MarchPatchy rain in the far east clearing during the early morning. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere apart from isolated showers about the southwest. A mild day with moderate west to northwesterly winds.Saturday 23 MarchIsolated showers developing over southern and mountain districts. Dry in the north and over east Gippsland.
