MELBOURNE - Mar 18/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system south of Adelaide will cross Bass Strait on Tuesday before accelerating away across the Tasman Sea on Wednesday. A cold front will move into the Bight on Wednesday as an associated low pressure system develops west of Tasmania. The cold front will cross Victoria on Thursday as the low slips south of Tasmania. A weak ridge of high pressure will lie over Victoria on Friday. Forecast for the rest of MondayIsolated showers on and south of the divide clearing this evening. Fine in the north. Light to moderate southerly winds.Tuesday 19 MarchIsolated coastal drizzle clearing early in the morning. Morning fog patches in the south. A fine and mostly sunny afternoon apart from the chance of a shower in the far east. A mild to warm day with a light wind and afternoon coastal seabreezes.Fire Danger - Moderate to High.Wednesday 20 MarchA fine and warm to hot day with northerly winds freshening from the west. High cloud increasing then a little patchy rain reaching the west at night.Thursday 21 MarchAreas of rain and isolated thunderstorms extending eastwards during the morning and becoming more widespread along northern slopes of the divide. Rain clearing from the west during the afternoon with isolated showers persisting about the southwest coast. Warm, fresh to strong northerly winds, locally reaching gale force on the higher ranges, shifting cooler westerly from the west and moderating later.Friday 22 MarchIsolated showers over east Gippsland clearing during the morning. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere apart from isolated showers about the southwest coast.
