Weather Situation
A high pressure system over Victoria is extending a ridge up Queensland's
east coast, while a weak surface trough stretches from the Gulf Country down to
the southern interior. Ex-Tropical Cyclone Tim is near stationary off
Queensland's central coast, but is expected to approach the north tropical coast
over the next few days.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Fine over most of the state. Mainly fine except for some isolated showers
about parts of the east coast and nearby inland areas, and some isolated showers
and storms over Cape York Peninsula and the Gulf Country. Fresh to strong SE
winds about the Sunshine, Wide Bay and Capricornia coast, strong to gale force
about the central coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over most of the rest
of the state.
Forecast for Tuesday
Fine over most of the state's interior except for some isolated, mainly light
afternoon showers over the southern and central interior. Isolated showers and
storms over Cape York Peninsula and the Gulf Country, and mainly fine with some
isolated showers about the north tropical coast district. Scattered showers
with some rain periods and some moderate to possibly heavy falls about the
central coast. Scattered showers also about the southeast tropics and the Wide
Bay and Burnett region, and mainly fine with some isolated light showers about
the southeast. Fresh to strong SE winds about the Sunshine, Wide Bay and
Capricornia coast, strong to gale force about the central coast. Light to
moderate SE to NE winds over most of the rest of the state.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high should move east over the Tasman Sea and maintain a ridge along
Queensland's east coast, whilst ex-Tropical Cyclone Tim should approach the
north tropical coast causing scattered gusty showers, isolated storms and
periods of rain with some moderate to heavy falls. More isolated showers about
the remainder of the eastern districts and the central interior, and some
scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula and the
Gulf Country. Fine and mostly sunny in the southwest.
Forecast for Thursday
The high should move over New Zealand whilst maintaining a strong ridge along
Queensland's east coast. Ex-Tropical Cyclone Tim should weaken is it moves
westwards across Cape York Peninsula and the Gulf Country, producing scattered
showers and isolated storms over the region. Scattered showers along the east
coast and nearby inland areas between about Mackay and Cooktown, easing during
the day. Isolated showers over the remaining eastern districts. It will be
mostly fine in the rest of state apart from possible isolated showers and
thunderstorms in the far southwest near the inland trough.
Forecast for Friday
A weakening ridge of high pressure should push some mainly isolated showers
across the central and northeast coast, spreading into the nearby inland areas
during the day. Isolated showers and storms are also possible about Cape York
Peninsula and the Gulf Country, and fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of
the state except for some isolated showers and storms about the far southwest
associated with a surface trough.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The ridge should continue to weaken about the east coast, and an associated
easing in the onshore wind flow should allow much of the east coast to be mainly
fine except for the chance of some isolated showers. A tropical trough
approaching from the Coral Sea may cause showers to increase during the weekend
about Cape York Peninsula, whilst most of the remainder of the state should be
fine and mostly sunny except for some isolated showers and storms across the
southern districts.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
