MELBOURNE - Mar 14/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure across southern Victoria will weaken today as a broad low pressure trough develops over Victoria and TC Sandra moves southwards over the central Tasman Sea. A cold front will move across Victoria on Saturday and then develop into a low pressure system east of Tasmania. The next high pressure system will drift slowly eastwards south of the Bight during Sunday and Monday, while the low will move away towards New Zealand. Forecast for the rest of FridayGenerally dry with just the chance of some patchy drizzle in the south, mainly near the coast and clearing by noon. Mild to warm in the south with morning cloud clearing to a mostly sunny afternoon. Warmer and sunny north of the divide. Light winds and afternoon seabreezes developing near the coast.Fire Danger - Generally high.Saturday 16 MarchScattered showers developing in the south becoming more extensive near the coast and extending eastwards during the afternoon. Isolated showers extending north of the divide, although remaining dry over the northwest. Generally mild at first with winds tending cooler, fresh and gusty southwesterly during the day, locally strong near the coast and about the ranges.Sunday 17 MarchIsolated showers in the south, more extensive over east Gippsland at first. Cool and partly cloudy in the south, milder and mostly sunny in the north. Light to moderate southerly winds.Monday 18 MarchIsolated showers in the south clearing during the afternoon. Sunny in the north.
