MELBOURNE - Mar 12/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A slow-moving high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge towards New South Wales, maintaining a warm east to northeasterly airstream over the state. The high is expected to weaken today as a trough and associated cold front approach from the west. This frontal system will reach western and southern New South Wales today, weakening as it moves to the northeast on Thursday. A stronger front is expected to affect the state during the weekend. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers along the coast north from Newcastle, tending scattered in the far north. The chance of afternoon or evening showers in the southeast. Fine elsewhere, with areas of afternoon cloud. East to northeasterly winds near the coast, freshening in the south ahead of a late gusty southerly change. Northeast to northwesterly winds inland, freshening in the southwest ahead of southwesterly change.Fire Danger - Very High: Southern Riverina and Northern Riverina Fire Areas.Thursday 14 MarchIsolated showers and thunderstorms through central and southeastern parts of the state. Fine elsewhere. Mostly southeast to southwesterly winds.Friday 15 MarchIsolated showers on parts of the coast and adjacent ranges. Fine elsewhere. South to southeasterly winds near the coast, tending light and variable inland.Saturday 16 MarchIsolated showers on the south and central coasts and the southeastern inland. Fine elsewhere.
