The monsoon trough stretches from Queensland's northwest to the North Tropical Coast and in to the northwest Coral Sea. Scattered showers and thunderstorms and areas of rain over the far north. Light to moderate SE to NE winds across most of the state, fresh at times about the southeast. Moderate to fresh westerly winds across the Peninsula district. A very high fire danger in the Channel Country. Forecast for Tuesday The upper low should lie near Queensland's far southwest, maintaining an area of scattered showers and storms and areas of rain with some moderate to locally heavy falls across the southern interior. Scattered showers and mainly isolated storms over most of the remainder of the state except the southeast where a fresh onshore flow out of the high in the Tasman should produce scattered showers. Scattered monsoonal showers and storms and areas of rain over the northern parts of the Peninsula district, and showers and storms tending to rain areas over the northern tropics. Forecast for Wednesday A firm ridge along the east coast will maintain an onshore flow and mainly isolated showers over the state's southeast. The focus of the monsoon flow is likely to shift eastwards to the Coral Sea area, however rain areas and thunderstorms are likely to continue over the far north. The upper low should remain near Queensland's far southwest and will continue to provide instability over western Queensland and at least isolated showers and thunderstorms over most of the state, more widespread over the southwest. Deep tropical moisture spreading through the central interior and Warrego beneath this instability may lead to some moderate to locally heavy falls. In the north, the monsoonal flow will continue to support scattered showers and thunderstorms, with rain areas in the far north. The firm ridge will remain in place along the east coast, and this should continue to produce scattered showers along the east coast and adjacent inland. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday A monsoonal wind flow should persist through the Torres Strait and over Cape York Peninsula, with rain and storms expected in this area and scattered showers and thunderstorms through the remaining tropics. The broad upper trough should gradually decay over central Australia, with the atmosphere tending to stabilise over western Queensland and showers and thunderstorm activity easing late in the week. The Tasman Sea high should move eastwards towards New Zealand but will maintain a firm ridge, fresh onshore winds and scattered showers along Queensland's southeast coast.
