Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 28/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system near New Zealand extends a ridge to the far north coast directing warm and moist air across the northeast of the state. A low pressure trough associated with a cold front passing over the southern Tasman Sea is currently over the central eastern and northern parts of New South Wales and is expected to stall on the Mid North Coast and extend to the North West Slopes and Plains on Friday. A small vigorous low pressure system is likely to develop offshore within this trough and linger off the southern Mid North Coast and Hunter coast on Friday and Saturday before weakening. Following this another high is expected to move towards Tasmania extending a ridge through the state.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayRain areas and possible isolated thunderstorms through eastern, central and northeastern districts with local heavy falls over parts of the southern and central inland. Fine in the southwest and the far northeast. North to northeast winds in the northeast ahead of a slow-moving trough in central eastern parts and the northern inland, with south to southwesterly winds behind the trough.Friday 1 MarchRain areas and isolated thunderstorms in the northeast tending to showers in the far northeast, locally heavy about the North West Slopes and Plains, Hunter and parts of adjoining districts. Showers on the south and central coasts and adjacent ranges, clearing early from the southern ranges. Fine in the remainder. South to southeast winds extending through most of the state, strong along the coast. North to northeast winds persisting in northeastern districts.Saturday 2 MarchIsolated showers on the south and central coasts and northeast of a line through the Central West Slopes and Plains, tending scattered in the northeast and widespread on the central and northern coasts and adjacent ranges. Fine elsewhere. Southeast winds, strong along the Central and Mid North Coasts.Sunday 3 MarchIsolated showers in the northeast extending to the northwestern inland, tending scattered near the coast. Isolated showers along the remainder of the coast. East to southeast winds.Monday 4 MarchIsolated showers along the coast and adjacent ranges and in the northern inland, tending scattered on the north coast and possibly extending westwards to the far northwest. Fine in the south and southwest. Southeast to northeast winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EDT Friday.Product IDN10031
