Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 23/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure system over the northern NSW ranges is moving to the southwest as a high pressure system near Tasmania extends a ridge to the northern Tasman Sea. These two systems are bringing vigorous gusty winds, heavy rain and damaging surf to eastern parts of NSW. As the low moves further inland tonight and Sunday rain and winds will gradually ease. The low is expected to weaken into a trough over the central parts of the state later Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayRain areas in the east with local heavy falls becoming showers across central inland parts. The chance of thunderstorms. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Southeast to northeasterly winds, fresh and gusty along parts of the coast. Dangerous surf along the coast.Sunday 24 FebruaryShowers and possible thunderstorms in the eastern half with possible locally heavy falls in southern and central parts. Partly cloudy in the west. North to northeast winds in the east Southerly winds over the western inland. Dangerous surf along southern and central coasts.Fire Danger -  Very High for the Monaro Alpine, Southern Ranges and Southern Slopes.Monday 25 FebruaryIsolated showers and thunderstorms in the eastern half. Scattered showers in the northeast. Partly cloudy elsewhere. East to northeasterly winds.Tuesday 26 FebruaryIsolated showers across the state, tending scattered about the northeast and southern inland. Isolated thunderstorms over the southern inland. East to northeast winds.Wednesday 27 FebruaryIsolated showers across the state, tending scattered about the northeast and and across the south. Possible thunderstorms across the south. North to northeast winds ahead of a southwest change in the west.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EDT Sunday.Product IDN10031
