MELBOURNE - Feb 22/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A large high pressure system southeast of Tasmania will move slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea during the weekend. A low pressure system off the northern New South Wales coast will move inland and weaken today, while a trough over the western Bight moves slowly east. The trough will enter western Victoria later Sunday and will move further eastwards on Monday before weakening. A cold front will cross waters south of the Bight on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayIsolated showers over the east, tending to rain areas along the far eastern Gippsland border. Dry and mostly sunny over the remainder of the State. A warm to hot day with east to northeasterly winds, and fresh afternoon coastal seabreezes.Fire Danger - High to Very High.Sunday 24 FebruaryIsolated showers and thunderstorms over central and eastern districts, mainly during the afternoon. Fine over the west. Very warm to hot with moderate to fresh northerly winds, shifting milder southwesterly in the the west late in the day.Monday 25 FebruaryIsolated showers and thunderstorms, more widespread about the eastern ranges. Mostly dry over the west apart from light showers over the southwest during the morning. Generally warm with light winds tending southerly during the afternoon.Tuesday 26 FebruaryScattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, mainly in the east.
