MELBOURNE - Feb 22/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters
between Double Island Point and Point Danger, including Moreton Bay.
Flood Warnings are current for various rivers and streams.

web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A low pressure system lies over northeast New South Wales and is expected to
move further inland during the day across northern New South Wales. An upper
level trough currently over western Queensland is expected to strengthen and
move slowly eastwards across Queensland during the next few days.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Early showers and storms contracting northwards out of the Channel Country
and clearing to a fine and mostly sunny afternoon. Fine over the remainder of
the southern interior except for some areas of patchy rain and some scattered
showers near the state border, contracting westwards during the day. Mainly fine
except for the chance of some isolated showers and storms over the state's
southeast, and more widespread showers and storms over the remainder of the
state. Some of the storms may be severe about the southeast tropics and the
northern tropical interior. Mainly light winds over the tropics, light to
moderate SW to NW winds over the south. A very high fire danger in the southern
interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The upper level trough should strengthen further over central Queensland, and
humid onshore winds should increase as a result about the central and southeast
coast, causing showers to spread to rain areas across the region. Some moderate
to heavy local falls are also possible about the Central Coast and Capricornia
districts. Scattered showers and isolated storms are expected over much of the
remainder of the state, except for the southwest where conditions should be fine
and mostly sunny.
Forecast for Monday
The upper level trough should move only slightly eastwards across the central
interior, and is likely to strengthen the onshore flow of humid winds across
southeast Queensland, resulting in widespread showers, isolated storms and areas
of rain about the state's southeast, with some moderate to heavy falls possible
near the coast and nearby inland areas. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over
the remaining eastern districts and the far north. Fine and mostly sunny
conditions over the remainder of the state.
Forecast for Tuesday
The upper trough may produce scattered showers and areas of rain about the
Wide Bay and Capricornia regions as it slowly moves across the area and
contracts offshore. Showers and storms are again expected over the eastern half
of the state, while fine and mostly sunny conditions should continue in the
west.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
A high in the Tasman Sea will push an onshore flow and at least isolated
showers across the east coast, but rain periods. A new upper trough may move
eastwards across the southern interior late in the working week, producing at
least isolated showers and thunderstorms over the region.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Saturday.
