MELBOURNE - Feb 22/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A large high pressure system southeast of Tasmania will move slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea during the weekend. A low pressure system off the northern New South Wales coast will move inland and weaken on Saturday, while a broad low pressure system develops over central Australia. An associated trough will enter the west of the State later Sunday and will move further eastwards on Monday before weakening. Another low pressure trough will cross waters south of the Bight on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of FridayPartly cloudy with isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly over western districts. Areas of smoke haze in the south. Light to moderate northeast to easterly winds, fresh and gusty about the coast.Saturday 23 FebruaryIsolated showers in the east, tending to rain areas along about far eastern Gippsland. Fine and mainly sunny over the remainder of the State apart from early morning fog patches over Gippsland. A warm to hot day with northeast to northerly winds, and fresh afternoon coastal seabreezes.Fire Danger - High to Very High.Sunday 24 FebruaryIsolated showers and thunderstorms over central and eastern districts, mainly during the afternoon. Fine over the west. Very warm to hot with moderate to fresh northerly, shifting milder southwesterly in the the west late in the dayMonday 25 FebruaryIsolated showers and thunderstorms, more widespread about the eastern ranges. Mostly dry over the west apart from light showers over the southwest during the morning. Generally warm with light winds tending southerly during the afternoon.Tuesday 26 FebruaryScattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, mainly in the east.
