Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 22/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure system off the New South Wales far north coast is moving to the southwest and will cross the coast this afternoon between Coffs Harbour and Ballina as a high pressure system near Tasmania extends a ridge to the northern Tasman Sea. These two systems are bringing vigorous gusty winds, heavy rain and damaging surf to northern and central parts of the NSW coast. As the low moves further inland during Saturday rain and winds will gradually ease. The low is expected to weaken into a trough over the central parts of the state by Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of FridayRain on the coast and adjacent ranges, with local heavy falls north of about Sydney and the chance of thunderstorms. Showers along the western slopes and ranges. The chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms in the far west. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Southeast to northeasterly winds, strong to gale force along parts of the coast. Damaging surf conditions along the north coast. Dangerous surf extending to central parts of the coast.Saturday 23 FebruaryRain areas in the east becoming showers across central inland parts. Dry in the far west. The chance of thunderstorms in the northeast, and northern inland. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Southeast to northeasterly winds, fresh and gusty along parts of the coast. Dangerous surf along central and southern parts of the coast.Fire Danger -  Very High across parts of central and southern inland NSW.Sunday 24 FebruaryShowers and possible thunderstorms in the eastern half, tending isolated over the western slopes of the ranges. Partly cloudy elsewhere. The chance of thunderstorms on the coast and ranges in the north. Partly cloudy in the west. North to northeast winds tending light and variable over the western inland.Monday 25 FebruaryIsolated showers and thunderstorms in the eastern half. Scattered showers in the northeast. Partly cloudy elsewhere. East to northeasterly winds.Tuesday 26 FebruaryIsolated showers across the state, tending scattered about the northeast. Isolated thunderstorms over the southern inland.
