MELBOURNE - Feb 21/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A large high pressure system southeast of Tasmania will move slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea during Friday. A low pressure system off the northern New South Wales coast will move inland and weaken on Saturday, while a broad low pressure system develops over central Australia. An associated trough will enter the west of the State later Sunday and will move further eastwards on Monday before weakening. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayPartly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms over central and eastern areas with isolated showers and thunderstorms developing in the far northwest later in the evening. Moderate east to southeast winds, becoming fresh and gusty about the coast. Winds shifting east to northeast inland during the day.Friday 22 FebruaryPartly cloudy with isolated showers and thunderstorms over central and western districts, mainly in the afternoon and becoming more widespread in the west. Local morning drizzle near the coast. Warm to hot with light to moderate northeast to easterly winds, fresh and gusty about the coast.Fire Danger - Generally High.Saturday 23 FebruaryIsolated showers in the east, tending to rain areas along about far eastern Gippsland. Fine and mainly sunny over the remainder of the State. A warm to hot day with northeast to northerly winds, and fresh afternoon coastal seabreezes.Sunday 24 FebruaryIsolated showers and thunderstorms over central and eastern districts, mainly during the afternoon. Fine elsewhere apart from isolated showers developing in the west later in the day. Very warm to hot with moderate to fresh northerly, shifting milder southwesterly in the the west late in the dayMonday 25 FebruaryIsolated showers and thunderstorms, more widespread about the ranges.
