MELBOURNE - Feb 21/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system is located off the Queensland border and is expected to move south to southwestwards towards the northern New South Wales coast Thursday evening before crossing northern parts of the coast between Ballina and Kempsey early on Friday. A high pressure system lies near Tasmania. The combination of these two systems are bringing vigorous gusty winds, heavy rain and damaging surf to the north coast. As the low moves southwest winds on the north coast will ease from the north during Friday and Saturday but increase on the central and south coasts. The low is expected to move further inland on Saturday and begin to weaken into a trough. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayShowers along the coast and adjacent ranges, with areas of rain a possible heavy falls on the north coast. South to southeast winds, fresh gusty on the northern coast. The chance of afternoon showers or thunderstorms in the far western and in far southern inland. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Damaging surf conditions along the far north coast.Friday 22 FebruaryRain on the coast and adjacent ranges, possible heavy falls near the coast north of about Sydney. Showers along the western slopes and ranges. The chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms in the far west Partly cloudy elsewhere. Southeast to northeasterly winds, strong to gale force along parts of the coast. Damaging surf conditions along the north coast. Dangerous surf extending to central parts of the coast.Fire Danger - Very High: Upper and Lower Central West Plains, Riverina, Central Ranges and North WesternSaturday 23 FebruaryRain areas becoming showers, apart from the far west. The chance of thunderstorms in the northeast, and northern inland. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Southeast to northeasterly winds, fresh and gusty along parts of the coast. Dangerous surf along central and southern parts of the coast.Sunday 24 FebruaryShowers in the eastern half, tending isolated over the western slopes. Partly cloudy elsewhere. The chance of thunderstorms on the coast and ranges in the north. Partly cloudy in the west. North to northeast winds tending light and variable inland.Monday 25 FebruaryIsolated showers in the eastern half, tending scattered in the northeast. Partly cloudy elsewhere.
