MELBOURNE - Feb 19/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong high pressure system near New Zealand extends a ridge towards the New South Wales coast, and is bringing showers to coastal districts. A weak trough over central parts will dissipate during today. Meanwhile, a deep near-stationary low has developed within a trough off the Queensland coast, and is forecast to move towards NSW on Thursday and Friday. This low is expected to continue to generate heavy rain, vigorous winds and large seas in the north. A weak trough over western NSW may generate isolated showers and storms over the next few days. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayShowers along the coast and adjacent ranges, more widespread in the north with the chance of locally heavy falls. Fine elsewhere, apart from isolated afternoon showers across the southern and western inland. Possible thunderstorms in the east, and in the southern and western inland. East to southeasterly winds, fresh and gusty on the northern coast. Dangerous surf conditions along the far north coast.Fire Danger - Very High over northwestern inland.Thursday 21 FebruaryShowers along the coast and adjacent ranges, more widespread in the north. Showers increasing to rain on the Far North Coast during the day. Heavy falls possible. Fine elsewhere, apart from isolated afternoon showers across the southern and western inland. Possible thunderstorms in the south and east. East to southeasterly winds, fresh and gusty on the northern coast. Dangerous surf conditions along the far north coast.Friday 22 FebruaryRain extending southwards along the coast and ranges north of about Forster. Heavy falls possible. Scattered showers along the remaining coast and ranges. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms across the southern and western inland. Southeast to northeasterly winds, strong to gale force along parts of the coast. Dangerous surf conditions along the north coast.Saturday 23 FebruaryRain along the central and northern coast, ranges and western slopes. Heavy falls possible. Isolated showers over the south coast and the remainder of the eastern inland. Chance of thunderstorms.
