MELBOURNE - Feb 19/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system is located near New Zealand. A low pressure trough is moving through eastern Victoria and will become slow moving in the northeast. A new high pressure system south of the Bight will move eastwards to be southeast of Tasmania by Wednesday night. The high will be located in the south Tasman Sea on Thursday and Friday and will move towards New Zealand on Saturday. Meanwhile a low pressure system looks likely to develop off the Queensland south coast. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated showers and thunderstorms in eastern areas. Cooler southwest to southerly winds extending eastwards in the evening.Wednesday 20 FebruaryIsolated showers in the east and about exposed parts of the coast with the chance of isolated afternoon thunderstorms near the eastern ranges. Warm and mainly sunny in the north, milder and partly cloudy in the south. Light to moderate south to southeast winds, freshening about parts of the coast.Fire Danger - Generally high.Thursday 21 FebruaryPartly cloudy with isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon. Remaining dry over the northwest. Generally warm with moderate east to southeast winds, becoming fresh and gusty about the coast. Winds shifting east to northeast inland during the day.Friday 22 FebruaryPartly cloudy with isolated showers and thunderstorms over most districts, mainly in the afternoon. Generally warm with moderate easterly winds, fresh and gusty about the coast.Saturday 23 FebruaryFine apart from isolated showers in the east.
