MELBOURNE - Feb 19/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system south of the Bight will move slowly east to be centred southeast of Tasmania by Thursday and over New Zealand on Saturday. A series of weak troughs will move across South Australia late this week as another high develops west of Perth. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayPartly cloudy in the south. Possible isolated showers and thunderstorms over the Flinders and Pastoral districts south and east of about Coober Pedy. Cool to mild near southern coasts, warm inland. Moderate to fresh northerly winds over the northeast with south to southeasterly winds elsewhere.Wednesday 20 FebruaryAreas of cloud across the Pastoral and Flinders districts with possible isolated showers and thunderstorms south of about Coober Pedy to Marree, mainly during the afternoon. Winds are expected to be light to moderate southeast to northeasterly, fresh about the coasts at times. Temperatures will range from mild about the coasts to hot inland.Thursday 21 FebruaryAreas of cloud across the Pastoral and Flinders districts. Possible isolated showers over the Flinders and Pastoral districts contracting eastwards during the day with isolated afternoon thunderstorms developing east of about Tarcoola. Possible isolated morning showers about the Lower South East coast. Warm to hot near the coasts grading to very hot in the far north with light to moderate northerly winds in the east and southerly winds elsewhere.Friday 22 FebruaryPossible isolated showers and thunderstorms on and east of the ranges. Mostly sunny elsewhere. Warm to hot with light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds.Saturday 23 FebruaryHot to very hot and mostly sunny, then possible isolated thundery showers developing in the far west later in the day. Moderate northerly winds shifting southerly from the west. Cumulative rainfall totals from Tuesday morning until midnight Friday are expected to be generally less than 2 mm, however isolated local falls of up to 10 mm are possible with thunderstorms on and east of the ranges on Friday.Sunday until TuesdayPossible isolated thundery showers extending over agricultural areas then clearing to the east early next week. Fine on Tuesday.
