MELBOURNE - Feb 18/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system is moving slowly eastwards across the south Tasman Sea. A low pressure trough extends from the Wimmera to the Central District and will move northeastwards across the remainder of the State during the morning and afternoon. A new high pressure system south of the Bight will move eastwards to be southeast of Tasmania by Wednesday night. The high will reach the south Tasman Sea on Thursday and Friday and will strengthen and become slow-moving. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated showers and thunderstorms contracting to northern and eastern areas during the afternoon and evening. Warm to hot north to northwesterly winds freshening about elevated areas, shifting cooler southwest to southerly in the west and south during the morning and extending throughout by the evening.Fire Danger - High to Very High.Wednesday 20 FebruaryIsolated showers in the east and about exposed parts of the coast with the chance of isolated afternoon thunderstorms near the eastern ranges. Warm and mainly sunny in the north, milder and partly cloudy in the south. Light to moderate south to southeast winds, freshening about parts of the coast.Thursday 21 FebruaryPartly cloudy with isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon. Remaining dry over the northwest. Generally warm with moderate east to southeast winds, becoming fresh and gusty about the coast. Winds shifting east to northeast inland during the day.Friday 22 FebruaryPartly cloudy with isolated showers and thunderstorms over most districts, mainly in the afternoon.
