Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 18/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system is moving slowly eastwards across the south Tasman Sea. The next low pressure trough will reach western Victoria later today and is forecast to move across the south of the state by Tuesday evening but will be slower moving across the north, not reaching the far northeast until around midnight Tuesday. A new high pressure system south of the Bight on Tuesday will move eastwards to be southeast of Tasmania by Wednesday night. The high will then be slow moving on Thursday, extending a ridge to the south of Tasmania. The ridge will weaken on Friday as the next trough approaches the Bight.
Forecast for the rest of MondayDry apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms about the eastern ranges and the chance of isolated showers developing over the southwest. Moderate to locally fresh northerly winds and afternoon seabreezes along the Gippsland coast. A cooler southerly change entering the southwest this afternoon and evening.Tuesday 19 FebruaryIsolated showers and thunderstorms contracting to northern and eastern areas during the afternoon and evening. Warm to hot north to northwesterly winds freshening about elevated areas, shifting cooler southwest to southerly in the west and south during the morning and extending throughout by the evening.Fire Danger -  High to Very High.Wednesday 20 FebruaryIsolated showers in the east and about exposed parts of the coast with the chance of isolated afternoon thunderstorms near the eastern ranges. Warm and mainly sunny in the north, milder and partly cloudy in the south. Light to moderate south to southeast winds, freshening about parts of the coast.Thursday 21 FebruaryPartly cloudy with isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon. Remaining dry over the northwest. Generally warm with moderate east to southeast winds, becoming fresh and gusty about the coast. Winds shifting east to northeast inland during the day.Friday 22 FebruaryPartly cloudy with isolated showers and thunderstorms over most districts, mainly in the afternoon. Generally warm with moderate easterly winds, fresh and gusty about the coast.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EDT Tuesday.Product IDV10310
