Warning Summary at issue time
A Flood Warning is current for the Balonne River.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high near Tasmania will maintain a ridge along the east coast of
Queensland. A weak upper trough over far southwestern Queensland will move east
over southern Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over western districts, will tend more
scattered during the afternoon and evening. Isolated showers about the east
coast and adjacent inland areas, will tend scattered about central and northeast
tropical coasts with possible isolated thunderstorms inland. Over the remaining
tropics there will be isolated showers and thunderstorms. It will be mostly fine
about most parts of the southern and central interior. Moderate to fresh SE
winds about the east coast, tending light to moderate SE to NE winds over the
tropics and through the interior. A High Fire Danger in the Northern Goldfields
and Upper Flinders, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Maranoa and Warrego,
Darling Downs and Granite Belts, Wide Bay and Burnett, and Capricornia.
Forecast for Friday
The high will remain slow moving near Tasmania. As the upper trough moves
over southern Queensland, another upper trough will begin to deepen over the
southern Tasman Sea. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue over
western Queensland mostly near a weak surface trough. Showers and thunderstorms
will tend more isolated about the central interior and tropics. Scattered
showers and possible isolated thunderstorms about the eastern coast in the moist
onshore flow, will tend more isolated in the adjacent inland areas. Fine and
partly cloudy conditions will continue in the southern interior.
Forecast for Saturday
The high over Tasmania will move remain slow moving as it heads into the
Tasman Sea. The upper trough in the southern Tasman Sea will cut off into a low
and move westward towards the central New South Wales coast. Scattered showers
and thunderstorms will occur in the tropics in a moist and unstable environment.
Scattered showers and possible thunderstorms will continue about the east coast
in the moist onshore flow. Fine in the southern interior and southwest with only
isolated showers and thunderstorms elsewhere in the state.
Forecast for Sunday
The high in the southern Tasman Sea will continue to move slowly east as the
upper low moves onto the central New South Wales coast. Isolated showers about
the east coast will tend more scattered with possible thunderstorms about the
central and tropical coasts. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue
in the tropics and extend into the northwest of the state with showers and
storms becoming more isolated in the west. Fine conditions will prevail in most
parts of the central and southern interior.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The upper low south of the border will track west into the central interior
of New South Wales. A surface trough in the Coral Sea will move west onto the
southeast coast increasing showers and possible thunderstorms in the southeast.
Isolated showers will continue elsewhere along the east coast, though tending
scattered with isolated thunderstorms in the northern tropics. Weather in the
state on Tuesday and Wednesday will greatly depend on the movement of the upper
trough. At this stage the most likely scenario is that the upper trough will
swing to the northeast on Tuesday further increasing showers and thunderstorms
along the eastern districts and decreasing activity in the west. A surface
trough low might form in the southern Coral Sea at this point. As the upper
trough moves further east on Wednesday, the surface low will deepen and move
southeast. This will lead to an easing in showers and thunderstorms about most
of the state, apart from the tropics.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Thursday.
