Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 12/13 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between
Bowen and Gladstone.
Flood Warnings are current for the Balonne River and the Lower Weir River.

Weather Situation
A surface trough in the western Coral Sea is moving northwestwards and is
expected to approach the central Queensland during the day. A high over
southeastern Australia will maintain a ridge along the east coast of Queensland
for the next few days.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms through the northwest of the state with
some moderate falls possible. Isolated showers and thunderstorms across most
remaining western and northern districts. Scattered showers with possible
isolated thunderstorms will develop along much of the east coast and adjacent
inland areas south of Cooktown, tending to isolated showers over the southeast
interior. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. A Very High fire danger in the
Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders and Central Highlands and Coalfields
districts. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh along the east coast.
Forecast for Thursday
An upper trough moving across South Australia will approach southwestern
Queensland during the day. The high will remain over southeastern Australia
while maintaining a ridge along the Queensland east coast. Generally scattered
showers and thunderstorms over the west of the state, tending isolated in the
north. Isolated showers along the east coast and adjacent inland areas, tending
scattered with possible isolated thunderstorms between about Cooktown and St
Lawrence. Fine and mostly sunny through the Central West and southern
interior.
Forecast for Friday
The upper trough will continue to move slowly eastwards and extend across
much of southern Queensland. The high will move slowly eastwards across Tasmania
and into the Tasman Sea while maintaining a ridge along the Queensland east
coast. Scattered showers and thunderstorms about the northwest and west of the
state, tending more isolated about far northern districts an through the eastern
interior. Scattered showers and possible isolated thunderstorms along the east
coast and adjacent inland areas between about Cooktown and Rockhampton. Isolated
showers about the southeast, extending into the Central West. Fine and mostly
sunny in the southern interior.
Forecast for Saturday
The upper trough will become slow moving and should continue to extend across
southern Queensland. The high will move slowly eastwards across the Tasman Sea
while maintaining the ridge along the east coast of Queensland. Scattered
showers and thunderstorms in the northwest, tending isolated through most inland
parts. Scattered showers with possible isolated thunderstorms along most of the
east coast and adjacent inland south of about Cooktown. Fine and mostly sunny in
the southern interior.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The upper trough is forecast to remain over southern Queensland, clearing
east on Tuesday. The high should continue to move slowly eastwards across the
Tasman Sea towards New Zealand while maintaining the ridge along the east coast
of Queensland. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over most northern districts,
tending more isolated through central inland parts. Scattered showers and
isolated thunderstorms along most of the east coast. Possibly fine and mostly
sunny in the southwest and southern interior.
